Lost Lakes v1.0.0
Greetings!
I’m excited to announce the release of Lost Lakes, a hiking simulator created for Comfy Jam Winter 2025. In this love letter to my annual camping trips, you explore a lake and the surrounding forest, collecting firewood to build campfires, while the seasons change around you.
For this project, I intended capture the essence of my favorite campground and turn it into a relaxed and accessible experience. Graphically, this was my first foray into drawing foliage, forcing me to expand my imagination of what quadrilaterals can do with instanced rendering. And I kept it simple in terms of accessibility, ensuring that its menus are navigable with screen readers, and further iterating upon the music-as-wayfinding concepts that I’ve been exploring recently.
Importantly, this initial jam version of Lost Lakes was cobbled together over nine days without any version control. It began as a side project that I never intended to share here, but became more focused when I learned of Comfy Jam and the sudden deadline it imposed. As a result, certain aspects may be unpolished or buggy; however, these areas for improvement would be perfect for an inevitable post-jam update. Perhaps I’ll find the inspiration and energy for that after my next visit?
In the meantime, I’m excited to get started on my submission for Games for Blind Gamers 5. If this blind-friendly walking simulator piqued your interest, then I strongly encourage you to consider participating. You’ll find that blind gamers have an appetite for far more complex and challenging games than this—but I’m comfortable staying in my weird lane.
Thanks for playing!
